WHAT IS EMBARK?

Embark is an advanced genetic testing service that strives to revolutionize canine health and wellness. Partnered with the Cornell School of Veterinary of Medicine and founded by the world's leading canine geneticists, Embark empowers dog owners, breeders, and veterinarians, to better understand and better care for our furry friends. It is our goal to help end canine hereditary disease, while revealing valuable insights into your dog's genetic profile.

WHAT DOES EMBARK TEST?

Embark provides the most comprehensive genetic testing service available. Our all-in-one platform reveals detailed insights into your dog's health, their genetic traits, and inbreeding and genetic diversity, all from a single cheek swab. We test for over 160 genetic health conditions informing you if your dog is at risk or is a carrier for an inherited disease (important for breeding). Our advanced trait section, tailored to breeders, reveals a number of phenotypic traits including coat color, coat length, inbreeding, furnishings, and much more.

HOW DOES THE TESTING WORK?

We send you out your Embark test kit, from which you simply swab the inside of your dog's cheek, before mailing back the DNA sample to us. Your swab is analyzed at our state-of-the-art, CLIA-certified, dog-approved lab facility. At the lab we extract your pup's DNA and run it on our custom-built genetics "chip", which is a proprietary DNA microarray with over 200,000 markers. This produces an incredibly detailed view of dog's genome which we run through our bioinformatics pipeline, which was created and is run by the top dog DNA scientists in the world. Your dog’s results go through several steps of verification and quality control. Whenever we see a questionable result, it is hand-checked by our scientific experts, so you know you can trust our findings.

EMBARK AND THE DOBERMAN DIVERSITY PROJECT

in collaboration with

Embark has proudly partnered with the Doberman Diversity Project to provide high-resolution genetic data and analysis for every dog enrolled through the project.

Embark's mission to improve canine health and wellness aligns with that of DDP - to reduce the incidence of heritable diseases by addressing the depression in the overall genetic diversity of the Doberman breed. Embark's genetic testing will be a key ingredient in achieving this goal, as we aim to test 1,000 Dobermans in an effort to identify specific areas of the Doberman genome that are associated with a breed-specific disease.
